OPENING SCENE 1 AS A YOUTH, BOB MARLEY IS LIVING WITH HIS RELATIVES IN JAMAICA SITTING ON THE FRONT PORCH OF HIS RELATIVES HOUSE PLAYING A MUSICAL INSTRUMENT LAUGHING AND PLAYING.
BOB MARLEY DISCUSSES HIS MUSICAL AMBITION WITH RELATIVES TO BE A HUGE MUSIC STAR ONE DAY WHILE LISTENTING TO NATIVE AND AMERICAN MUSIC ON THE LOCAL RADIO. BOB QUESTIONS MOTHER CEDELLA MARLEY ABOUT THE WHEREABOUTS OF HIS WHITE FATHER. BOB COMPLAINS OF HIS FATHERS ABSENCE TO HIS MOTHER.
FAMILY LOOKS AT BOB WITH GREAT HOPE TO PURSUE HIS DREAMS AS A GREAT MUSCIAN AND HELP HIM BEGIN A PATHWAY BY SEEKING OUT TALENT SHOWS AND MUSIC SCHOOLS IN NEARBY KINGSTON.
MEANWHILE, BUNNY WAILER ENROLLS IN JOE HIGGS MUSIC SCHOOL IN KINGSTON JAMAICA ADMINSTERD BY LOCAL MUSIC TEACHER JOE HIGGS, THE SCHOOL HOUSES ALL THE LOCAL TALENT. WHILE IN SCHOOL BUNNY BEFRIENDS BOB MARLEY. BUNNY IS HAVING TROUBLE WITH HIS FAMILY SUPPORTING HIM AS HE SETS OFF ON HIS OWN TO FOLLOW HIS DREAMS, DEFYING HIS FAMILY GOALS FOR HIM TO A GOAT HERDER ON THE ISLAND AND HAVING A STEADY CAREER.
MEANWHILE IN RURAL JAMAICA, PETER TOSH AS A YOUTH IS AT HOME IN WESTMORELAND, WITH HIS FAMILY PLAYING INSTRUMENTS MADE FROM SARDINE CANS AND WOODEN STICKS IN BACKYARD NEAR A LAKE. HE GOES INTO HOUSE ALSO TO PLAY A PIANO IN WHICH HIS AUNT ELMA GIVES HIM LESSONS ONCE A WEEK. HIS MOTHER SPEAKS TO HIM IN A SERIOUS NATURE ABOUT HIS FUTURE AS A MUSICIAN, HIS MOTHER GOES TO KITCHEN AND EMPTIES MONEY OUT OF A CAN TO GIVE PETER FOR BUS FARE TO KINGSTON TO ENROLL IN SCHOOL. SHE TELLS HIM THAT YOU ARE MY ONLY SON AND I AM VERY PROUD OF YOU WHATEVER YOU BECOME IN LIFE. PETER PLAYS FOOTBALL WITH HIS FRIENDS IN THE YARD BEFORE HE HEADS OFF TO KINGSTON.
SCENE 2 AT THE JOE HIGGS MUSIC SCHOOL MANY KIDS IN FRONT YARD PLAYING MUSIC AND SPORTS, LAUGHING AND PLAYING,. BUNNY AND BOB ARE TOGETHER TALKING AND OVERHEAR PETER PLAYING THE HARMONICA AND THEY BOTH APROACH HIM IN AN ABRUPT WAY AND COMPLIMENT HIM ON HOW WELL HE PLAYS THE HARMONICA. PETER SAYS TO THEM IN A JOKING MANNER “ ANYTHING YOU CAN DO I CAN DO IT BETTER BECAUSE I AM THE TOUGHEST”.
THEN BUNNY AND BOB BEGAN TO JOIN HIM, PLAYING INSTRUMENTS AND SINGING IN THE SCHOOL YARD WHILE ALL THE OTHER STUDENTS LOOK ON WITH ADMIRATION. INSIDE THE SCHOOL THEY BEGAN TO LEARN HOW TO READ AND INTERPRET MUSIC. JOE NOTICES THAT THE THREE WERE THE MOST TALENTED IN THE CLASS AND PAIR THEM TOGETHER AS A GROUP FOR PRIVATE LESSONS. JOE PICKS OUT BOB AS THE LEAD SINGER OF THE GROUP. THE TRIO RIDE DONKEYS HOME WHILE TALKING ABOUT THEIR FUN DAY AT SCHOOL TOGETHER AND BECOME VERY GOOD FRIENDS. |
